Using the IRC Network

TransIRC is a small, independent IRC network created by and for trans and questioning individuals. We aim to provide a safe, supportive space for chatting, organizing, and sharing—away from corporate platforms and invasive tracking.

🌐 Connecting to the Server

  • Port: 6697 (SSL Required)
  • Main Channel: #Welcome
  • We support SASL, IRCv3, and modern clients like HexChat, irssi, and weechat.

You can also use our Web Client to connect from your browser.

🔐 Privacy-Focused Features

Our network prioritizes privacy:

  • No persistent chat logs.
  • No backend database on the web client.
  • Ephemeral chat history (in memory only).
  • Optional Tor access for anonymous and censorship-resistant connections.
  • Account passwords are hashed securely with `bcrypt`.

🛠️ Helpful IRC Bot Commands

Our custom bot includes community tools and moderation support:

  • `!pronouns` — Set or update your pronouns.
  • `!pronouns <nick>` — Check someone’s pronouns.
  • `!report <nick> <reason>` — Report a user to admins.

See the Full Command List for more.

🔍 Backdoor Access (Restricted)

We offer alternate connection methods for users in restricted or monitored environments:

  • SSH backdoor access
  • Tor hidden service
  • Clean IP/domains to evade common blocks

To request access, use the `!backdoor` command after your account has been registered for at least 48 hours. The bot will send you the details via private message upon verification.

🧰 What Else You Should Know

  • Registration is required to join most channels.
  • The network is monitored for safety but stores no persistent user logs.
  • The bot also supports features like karma tracking, flood protection, and invite monitoring.

If you're new, start by joining #Welcome, and say hi!
